West Point won the last time they faced Northampton, and things went their way on Friday, too. West Point took the contest and then some with a 51-8 win over Northampton. West Point were expected to win, but the margin was definitely larger than the state rankings had forecast.
The game started off well for West Point, whose offense put up 38 first-half points. Meanwhile, Northampton couldn't get anything going offensively, leaving the score at 38-0 heading into the break. The West Point defense stood its ground in the third quarter, giving up 0 and all but finishing the matchup.
Junior Lawrence Porter was the offensive standout of the match for West Point, as he rushed for 199 yards and 3 touchdowns. One of the most memorable plays of the match was Porter's 69-yard touchdown rush in the first quarter. Junior Thomas O'Connor was in the mix, too, providing West Point with 2 touchdowns.
West Point are packing up and heading on the road for their first away contest this season. They face off against Rappahannock at 6:00 PM. Both teams seek to continue their momentum from their previous wins. Northampton will be defending their home turf for the first time next week when they go up against Middlesex at 7:00 PM. Middlesex also experienced difficulties finding the end zone in their previous matchup, so look for the defenses to decide this one.
