Lovejoy (Lucas, Texas) jumped out to an early lead against
Wylie (Texas) and never looked back on the way to a 47-21 victory on Saturday.
The Leopards scored seven points in the first quarter. Lovejoy scored on a
Zach Saffle touchdown run and a touchdown.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by Saffle in the first quarter, LHS led 24-7 at the half.
The Lucas school expanded its lead to 26 points entering the fourth quarter. The Leopards scored three times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by Saffle.
Kalen Winkler made a difference for the Pirates. The senior wide receiver caught one touchdown. He has now scored three touchdowns on the season.
Lovejoy's standout player in the win was Saffle. He threw one touchdown and ran for three touchdowns. He has now scored eight touchdowns on the season.
With the win LHS extended its winning streak to four games.
In a 4A Region II District 13 game next week Lovejoy (4-0) takes on Greenville, and Wylie (0-4) will go up against Wylie East also in a 4A Region II District 13 game.
