Softball Recap: Riverview Wins Going Away Against Huron

Riverview barely beat Huron the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Pirates put the hurt on the Chiefs with a sharp 17-7 win on Monday. Considering the Pirates have won ten matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Olivia Salinas made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI.

In other batting news, Riverview got a massive performance out of Megan Southward, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance also gave Southward a new career-high in doubles (two). Ella Vinco was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, three RBI, and two doubles.

Riverview kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.

Riverview pushed their record up to 19-6-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Huron, their loss dropped their record down to 6-11.

Riverview wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 4-1 defeat against St. Mary Catholic Central on the 13th. Huron has also already played their next matchup (against Jefferson), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
