Softball Recap: Hardin Northern Has No Trouble Against Kalida

Hardin Northern came out on top against Kalida on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run third inning. The Polar Bears put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 18-8 victory. The Polar Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by seven runs or more this season.

Baylie Bacon and Addy Bacon did most of the damage at the plate: Baylie went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base, while Addy went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run marked the first that Baylie has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Heidi Trachsel, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Hardin Northern lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.

The win made it two in a row for Hardin Northern and bumps their season record up to 9-3. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 20.5 runs over those games. As for Kalida, their loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-9.

Hardin Northern wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 14-4 win against Cory-Rawson on the 18th. As for Kalida, they will welcome Arlington at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Wildcats are facing the Red Devils at the right time seeing as the Red Devils are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
