The Cotopaxi Pirates put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed by Cripple Creek-Victor at home to the tune of 53-21. The result was nothing new for Cotopaxi, who have now won four matches by 32 points or more so far this season.
Cotopaxi's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eden Merrill, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Fieth, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Cotopaxi's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.4 points per game. As for Cripple Creek-Victor, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cotopaxi won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Evangel Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on December 16th. Hopefully Evangel Christian Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Friday. Cripple Creek-Victor will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on South Park at 5:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
