The Waldron Mohawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 53-43 loss to Triton Central. Waldron has struggled against Triton Central recently, as their contest on Thursday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Waldron saw an underclassman step up: Grace Fischer scored 15 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. The game was Fischer's 12th in a row with at least ten points.
Even though they lost, Waldron were working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Triton Central only racked up 19 assists.
Triton Central's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brooklyn Bailey, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Hailey Harris, who scored 13 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Waldron has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Triton Central, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-3.
Waldron will head out on the road to face off against South Decatur at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Triton Central's road trip will continue as they head out to face Morristown at 6:00 p.m. on January 6th. Morristown will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
