Aidan Andrews was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Lucas Holweger was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Chase Wilson, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Horizon Honors lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Heritage Academy made easy work of Tempe Prep on Monday and carried off an 8-2 win.
Like Horizon Honors, Heritage Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Paul (PJ) Soltero. He struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Soltero is becoming a predictor of Heritage Academy's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 2-1 (and 2-6-1 when he doesn't). Soltero was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isaias Ruiz, who scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.
Horizon Honors' victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Heritage Academy, their record is now 4-7-1.
Heritage Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Horizon Honors hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. It's a different story for Heritage Academy, though, as they've only averaged .215. Will they be able to contain Horizon Honors' hitters?
