The Frankfort Falcons will challenge the University Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Frankfort comes in on 25 and University on three.
Frankfort is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: Keyser, who was ranked 23rd at the time (Frankfort was ranked second). The Falcons walked away with a 6-1 win over the Golden Tornado on Friday. That's two games straight that the Falcons have won by exactly five runs.
Rylee Mangold made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Mangold was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run.
In other batting news, Avery Noel was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Adison Pritts, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Frankfort lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Keyser didn't launched any home runs.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between University and Oak Glen, and University kept the tradition alive. The Hawks came out on top against the Golden Bears by a score of 11-7 on Wednesday. University's victory was all the more impressive since the Golden Bears were averaging only 3.83 runs allowed on the season.
Tegan Haney looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
At the plate, University got a massive performance out of Olivia Masoner, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Adalyn Brown, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
Frankfort pushed their record up to 25-0 with the win, which was their 15th straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for University, their record now sits at 21-4-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Frankfort hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.1 home runs per game. However, it's not like University struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
