Basketball Recap: Marley Bittel and Kelsi Maier Secure Win for Hoisington

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hoisington). They snuck past the Bucklin Red Aces with a 60-55 victory on Saturday. The Cardinals have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Red Aces, too.

Hoisington was led to victory by Kelsi Maier and Marley Bittel. Maier went 5 of 9 en route to 16 points and five rebounds, while Bittel posted 13 points. Maier is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Tianna Lutters, who had 12 points and six rebounds.

Hoisington was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bucklin only racked up seven assists.

When it comes to explaining why Bucklin lost, don't look at Emmy Kirk. Despite the final result, she posted 18 points in addition to five assists and five boards. Kirk has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Isabel Bowman, who put up 12 points and seven rebounds.

The win got Hoisington back to even at 2-2. As for Bucklin, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 2-2.

Hoisington didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 51-39 victory against Sterling on the 17th. As for Bucklin, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 55-44 loss against South Gray on the 17th.
