Springstead has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Lecanto Panthers at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Florida (Springstead is ranked 107th, while Lecanto is ranked 114th).
Last Wednesday, Springstead sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 35-33 win over Nature Coast Tech.
Springstead's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Samantha Suarez, who scored 12 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Suarez has scored at least 25% of Springstead's points. Malanie Francis was another key contributor, scoring 6 points along with 11 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Meanwhile, Lecanto really took it to Crystal River for the full four quarters, racking up a 70-25 win at home. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 51-17.
Lecanto can attribute much of their success to Bryleigh Florio, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 10 steals, and Ijyana Edwards, who scored 24 points along with 7 assists and 6 rebounds. Florio continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaliyah Beaver, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Springstead is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. As for Lecanto, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Springstead have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Lecanto struggles in that department as they've been even better at 41 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
