Wilson Academy have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell to Archbishop Hoban 58-53. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Wilson Academy came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 54th in Georgia, while Archbishop Hoban is ranked 537th in Ohio).
Archbishop Hoban got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jonas Nichols out in front who scored 17 points along with six rebounds. The game was Nichols' fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joseph Hardman, who scored nine points.
Wilson Academy's loss dropped their record down to 10-3. As for Archbishop Hoban, their victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-3.
Wilson Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Buchtel at 7:00 p.m. on December 20th. Buchtel knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully Wilson Academy likes a good challenge. Archbishop Hoban will take on Covington Catholic in a holiday battle at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at. One thing working in Covington Catholic's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five matches.
