Jeannette is on a seven-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Serra Catholic is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Jayhawks will host the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Jeannette 3.3, Serra Catholic 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Jeannette came out on top against Greensburg Central Catholic on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fifth inning. The Jayhawks took their matchup against the Centurions 8-5. That's two games straight that the Jayhawks have won by exactly three runs.

Grace Stein made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Raylyn Gallik was excellent, going 1-for-4 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
Meanwhile, Serra Catholic got the win against Leechburg on Thursday by a conclusive 15-1. Considering the Eagles have won six games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Jeannette, Serra Catholic also got a great game from a two-way player: Kelly Morrissey. On the mound, Morrissey struck out 11 batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Giana Foster pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Morrissey went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Foster went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Keyara Watkins, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Chamberlain, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Serra Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 11.
Jeannette has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Serra Catholic, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Jeannette has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Serra Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 11.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Jeannette skirted past Serra Catholic 2-1 in their previous matchup on Tuesday. Will the Jayhawks repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
