Southeast extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to ten on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-9. They came up short against the Braden River Pirates, falling 21-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pirates this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 back in February.
Kaylynn Metters and Shariya Bustetter did some serious damage despite the final result: Metters went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and one run, while Bustetter went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple and two RBI. Those doubles marked the first that Metters has hit this season. Kaelyn Poole was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
As for Braden River, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-2. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Braden River's side, Cady Jones was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Jones has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ansley Schneider, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Sarai Castro, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Looking ahead, Southeast will square off against Bradenton Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Braden River, they will take on Bayshore at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bruins have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.2 runs per game on average), something the Pirates will no doubt try to take advantage of.
