The Sand Creek Scorpions lost against the Pueblo County Hornets back in October of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Sand Creek was beaten by Pueblo County 48-8. Sand Creek was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 27-0.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pueblo County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Johnathan Gonzales, who rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown, and also picked up 60 receiving yards. Gonzales was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 60 yards. Terrell Dillaha also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Sand Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Pueblo County, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sand Creek will take on Canon City at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Canon City is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. Pueblo County will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Pueblo East at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd.
