Grace will head out to face Santa Clara after giving up their first home loss of the season on Thursday. The Lancers fell just short of Oak Park by a score of 5-3.
Rosy Salazar spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Grace saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grace Maguire, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.
Santa Clara came out on top against Bishop Diego on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Saints' pitcher stepped up to hand the Cardinals a 6-0 shutout. The victory continues a trend for the Saints in their matchups with the Cardinals: they've now won three in a row.
Not much got past Kadyn Sanchez, who gave up just a hit and racked up 16 Ks to keep Bishop Diego off the board.
At the plate, Santa Clara let Sophia Romero and Sophia Grace Castorena run wild. Romero went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base, while Castorena went 2-for-3 with three RBI. That's the most RBI Castorena has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcie Acosta, who went 3-for-4 with two runs.
Santa Clara was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bishop Diego only posted a batting average of .045.
Grace suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 12-4. As for Santa Clara, their win bumped their record up to 8-4.
Santa Clara's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Grace hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. It's a different story for Santa Clara, though, as they've only averaged .250. Will they be able to contain Grace's hitters?
Grace beat Santa Clara 4-1 when the teams last played back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lancers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
