The Indian Lake Lakers will venture away from home to take on the London Red Raiders at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Indian Lake took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They came out on top against North Union by a score of 6-3. The Lakers haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Indian Lake's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Mackenzie Dixon, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Brylee Buyer also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, London came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Arrows 12-4. The Red Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.
London got a massive performance out of Gwyn Wieber, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Wieber a new career-high in doubles (three). Another player making a difference was Khloe Cunningham, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
London hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in five consecutive games.
London pushed their record up to 11-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Indian Lake, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Indian Lake hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. However, it's not like London struggles in that department as they've averaged .419. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Indian Lake beat London 8-3 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lakers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
