Tucson High Magnet School was the 38-30 winner over Rincon/University when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. Tucson High Magnet School's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Amaya Trujillo, who went 5 for 10 on her way to 13 points and five assists. That's the most points Trujillo has posted since back in January of 2024. Shanice Walters also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.
Leila O'Dowd was her usual excellent self, shooting 7-for-9 from beyond the arc and almost dropping a double-double on 38 points and nine boards for Rincon/University. O'Dowd is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Emily Martinez was another key player, putting up five points and four steals.
Tucson High Magnet School's loss dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Rincon/University, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-7.
Coincidentally, both will both be playing Marana the next time they take the court. Rincon/University will host Marana at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while Tucson High Magnet School will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on January 28th.
