For the first time this season, Springfield will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Memorial Red Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Springfield is looking to give their home crowd another W after opening their season at home on Saturday. They blew past Leetonia 22-3.
Makenna Wymer made a big impact no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Wymer was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Springfield got a massive performance out of Gracie Maldonado, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. What's more, Maldonado posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Olivia Allen was another key player, going 2-for-3 with five RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Memorial made easy work of McKinley on Saturday and carried off a 7-1 win. The victory continues a trend for the Red Devils in their matchups with the Red Dragons: they've now won six in a row.
Ramani Adams spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Abby Broz was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Savannah Cleland, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Springfield suffered a grim 20-10 defeat to Memorial in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will Springfield have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
