On Wednesday, the McKinley Tech Trainers faced the Coolidge Colts in a battle between two of the state's top teams. McKinley Tech had to suffer through a rough 65-18 loss at the hands of Coolidge. McKinley Tech was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 46-8.
When it comes to explaining why McKinley Tech lost, one person who can't be blamed is Quimiah Haywood. Despite the final result, she scored nine points.
Coolidge found their leader in underclassman Josslyn Derricott, who scored 18 points along with eight steals and seven rebounds. Derricott hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Jaylyn Derricott, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
McKinley Tech are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-5. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 18.8 points per game. As for Coolidge, their victory bumped their record up to 4-7.
McKinley Tech's road trip will continue as they head out to face Parkside at 5:00 p.m. on January 5th. Parkside comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last eight games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Coolidge, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Roosevelt at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in District of Columbia (Roosevelt is ranked 13th, while Coolidge is ranked eighth).
