II Section II recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Mountain View, who took down 27th ranked Cienega, 21-19. Richie Estrada ran for 221 yards in the win.
Salpointe Catholic extended the longest winning streak in II Section II this week by beating Marana, 52-6. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Lancers.
Sahuaro's dynamic duo of Laramie Brown and Joseph Grono proved tough for Catalina Foothills to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Brown threw for 258 yards and three touchdowns and Grono had 108 yards receiving. Lucas Smith helped Sahuaro's passing attack out by catching three balls for 92 yards.
Leo Khawam provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Canyon del Oro defeated Flowing Wells. He completed 12 passes for 209 yards and three touchdowns and also ran for 51 yards. Khawam's favorite target this week was JJ Metz, who caught five passes for 86 yards.
The Bobcats' Adriell Alvarado and Luke Holley have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Alvarado has thrown for 967 yards this season, while Holley, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 31 catches for 507 yards. Estrada from the Mountain Lions leads the league in rushing with 740 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Cienega takes on the Cougars. As it stands, Nemer Hassey's team is in sixth, while Sahuaro is in third.
The Dorados were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from 14th to 11th in II Section II. Canyon del Oro beat the Caballeros 36-15 earlier in the week.
