The Hope Christian Huskies will head out on the road to face off against the Belen Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Hope Christian has three straight victories, Belen has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Hope Christian is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against West Mesa on Wednesday as they made off with a 16-7 win. The Huskies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by nine runs or more this season.
Keegan Johnson was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Johnson was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs.
In other pitching news, Luciano Gabaldon looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off three hits.
Back at the plate, Gavin Locker was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with six RBI, four runs, and two doubles. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jaden Wright, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Hope Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .447. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in five consecutive games.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Saturday. Belen fell 6-2 to Hobbs.
Hope Christian's record is now 6-1. As for Belen, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.
Hope Christian skirted past Belen 5-3 when the teams last played two weeks ago. Do the Huskies have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
