The El Segundo Eagles will challenge the Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. El Segundo will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak.
El Segundo barely beat West the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. El Segundo's pitcher stepped up to hand West an 8-0 shutout on Friday.
Not much got past Jacy Lindsay, who gave up just three hits and racked up eight Ks to keep West off the board. Lindsay has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Marilyn McCaverty was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Allie Stevenson, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.
Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Long Beach Poly's offense. They came up short against Millikan on Thursday, falling 8-0. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Jackrabbits' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Long Beach Poly saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ki'Ele Ho-Ching, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.
El Segundo pushed their record up to 14-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing seven strikeouts in those games compared to only 3.67 in the others. As for Long Beach Poly, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-3.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. El Segundo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .332. However, it's not like Long Beach Poly struggles in that department as they've averaged .411. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
El Segundo took their win against Long Beach Poly in their previous meeting back in March of 2019 by a conclusive 11-2. Does El Segundo have another victory up their sleeve, or will Long Beach Poly turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
