The Cross Stingrays stacked an 11th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 54-23 win over Hilton Head Prep. The win was familiar territory for Cross who now have four in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cross to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lexann Maldonado, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. Maldonado hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Mayers, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
When it comes to explaining why Hilton Head Prep lost, one person who can't be blamed is Courtney Campbell. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. Campbell is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Erin Cleary, who scored nine points along with four steals.
Cross pushed their record up to 17-4 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Hilton Head Prep, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cross will challenge the Sundevils at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Charleston Collegiate will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while the Stingrays are ranked 98th). As for Hilton Head Prep, they will head out on the road to take on the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hilton Head Christian Academy is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 52.1 points per game this season.
