Baseball Recap: Washington Academy Continues Home Dominance on Thursday

Washington Academy faced Narraguagus in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Raiders put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 9-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won ten matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Trevor Shimabukuro spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on 11 hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Washington Academy let Daniel Gardner and James Welch run wild. Gardner went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Welch went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Welch is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. George Welch also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Washington Academy's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Narraguagus, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 9-1.

Looking ahead, Washington Academy will head out on the road to face off against Orono at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Narraguagus, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Shead at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
