Basketball Recap: Freedom Christian Academy's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

After flying high against Amandla Academy last Saturday, Freedom Christian Academy came back down to earth. The Freedom Christian Academy Patriots took a 96-86 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Harrells Christian Academy Crusaders on Friday. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Crusaders apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2022.

Several Patriots players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Karsten Swinney, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine assists. The contest was Swinney's eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce West, who posted 23 points.

Swinney wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Freedom Christian Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 25 assists. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now racked up at least 23 assists in four consecutive matchups.

Harrells Christian Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Antonio Mckoy, who dropped a double-double on 42 points and 12 boards. Those 42 points gave Mckoy a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zicareian Mcneil, who went 6 of 11 from beyond the arc on his way to 24 points and eight assists.

With the defeat, Freedom Christian Academy broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-8. As for Harrells Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-2 record this season.

Freedom Christian Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, an 83-60 win against Wayne Preparatory Academy on the 28th. As for Harrells Christian Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 66-55 victory against Goldsboro on the 28th.
