After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Lubbock-Cooper, The Monterey Plainsmen were happy to have found some success on Friday. They walked away with a 14-7 win over Coronado. This was payback for Monterey, who suffered a 16-12 loss the last time these two teams met.
Despite the loss, Coronado still got an impressive performance from Demarion Finch, who rushed for 147 yards.
Monterey's win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Coronado, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.
Monterey will head out on the road to face off against Amarillo at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Amarillo's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Monterey has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. Coronado will take on Tascosa at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
