Laurens Academy put the finishing touches on their eighth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They blew past Our Lady of the Rosary, posting a 46-9 win on the road. Given Laurens Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 70th, while Our Lady of the Rosary is ranked 264th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Richard Winn Academy was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 36-32 to Wardlaw Academy. Richard Winn Academy has struggled against Wardlaw Academy recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Abby Lewis, who scored 13 points along with four steals. Another player making a difference was Meagan Brigman, who scored seven points along with 11 rebounds and four blocks.
Laurens Academy pushed their record up to 17-1 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Richard Winn Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 7-5.
Laurens Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Richard Winn Academy when the teams last played on January 3rd, winning 51-39. The rematch might be a little tougher for Laurens Academy since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
