Football Recap: Largo Piles Up the Points Against Crossland

With a playoff win on the line, Largo rose to the challenge on Friday. They really took it to the Crossland Cavaliers for the full four quarters, racking up a 44-15 win. The victory was familiar territory for the Lions, who have now won four games in a row.

Largo's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Akeem Jervis, who threw for 144 yards and three touchdowns on only ten passes, and also rushed for 31 yards and one score. Those three passing touchdowns gave Jervis a new career-high. Another back making a difference was Tymond Foxx, who rushed for 156 yards and one TD while picking up 7.8 yards per carry.

Largo didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Crossland to a completion percentage of just 38.1%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Nijel Trice and Jaylin Mathis, who each logged one passes deflected. Largo has been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.63 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.63 in their last three games.

Largo's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Kevonte Howard, Desmond Lawrence, and Miles Braxton-Brown, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Despite the defeat, Crossland saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Donte Hagan rushed for 104 yards and one score, and also threw for 15 yards and one touchdown. Those 104 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Hagan.

Largo's record is now 6-4. As for Crossland, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Largo will face off against Douglass at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lions will need to watch out since the Eagles have now posted at least 31 points in their last three matchups. Crossland does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
