Green Hope is 0-10 against Apex since March of 2018 but things could change on Tuesday. The Falcons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cougars at 4:00 p.m. Green Hope is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Green Hope didn't have quite enough to beat Green Level and fell 5-4. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Claire Phelps was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with four RBI. Ainsley Campbell was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Apex, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Middle Creek 5-4 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted since February 26th.
Audrey Mulaski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Leah Kendall, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Lauren McMahon, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Apex pushed their record up to 10-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Green Hope, their loss dropped their record down to 8-13.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Green Hope hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .330. However, it's not like Apex struggles in that department as they've averaged .369. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Green Hope came up short against Apex in their previous meeting back in March, falling 12-8. Will the Falcons have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
