Grand Junction Central and Durango are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Grand Junction Central Warriors will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Durango Demons at 5:30 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
The third road match was the charm for Grand Junction Central, as they earned their first road win of the season. They came out on top against Glenwood Springs by a score of 56-48 on Saturday.
Grand Junction Central had a senior duo take command as Brynn Wagner scored 23 points along with five steals and Krystyna Manzanarez scored 19 points along with three blocks and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wagner has scored all season. Tuscani Ritter was another key contributor, scoring five points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Durango had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They walked away with a 35-27 win over Eagle Valley.
Grand Junction Central's win bumped their record up to 4-8. As for Durango, they pushed their record up to 7-5 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
Things could have been worse for Grand Junction Central, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 51-32 loss to Durango in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Grand Junction Central, Mason Rowland (who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and four steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
