The Payson Longhorns won the last time they faced the Globe Tigers, and things went their way on Monday too. Payson took down Globe 65-47.
Payson was led to victory by Mikey Schinstock and Omar Fierro-Nava. Schinstock scored 24 points along with five rebounds, while Fierro-Nava dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Fierro-Nava has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sergio Madrid, who scored ten points along with seven assists and seven rebounds.
Globe's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josiah Cutter, who scored 18 points along with four steals. Jonas Dillon was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds.
Payson now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Globe, their loss dropped their record down to 5-16.
Payson's road trip will continue as they head out to face Holbrook at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Holbrook will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Globe, they will play host again and welcome Benjamin Franklin, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Benjamin Franklin presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Globe in Arizona (Benjamin Franklin is ranked 149th, while Globe is ranked 300th).
