The Easley Green Wave will venture away from home to challenge the Belton-Honea Path Bears at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Easley easily dispatched Greenwood on Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Green Wave fell just short of Travelers Rest by a score of 2-0 on Tuesday. Surprisingly, this marked the Green Wave's third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Belton-Honea Path). They blew past Dixie 12-2 on Monday. Winning may never get old, but the Bears sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.
Madox Vipperman made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Colby Bates, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Jakari Anderson was another key player, earning three runs and one stolen base.
Belton-Honea Path always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.
Belton-Honea Path's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-9. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Easley, they now have a losing record of 11-12.
Easley might still be hurting after the 10-1 loss they got from Belton-Honea Path in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Green Wave avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
