JASPER, Mo. - After two lead changes,
Jasper (Mo.) took the lead for good when
Payton Smith ran for a two-point conversion with 2:00 to go in the second quarter and held on to defeat McAuley Catholic (Joplin, Mo.) 54-12 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a two-point conversion in the second quarter, the Eagles were up 20-12 at the half.
Jasper grew its lead to 28 points entering the fourth quarter. JHS scored four times in the third, including once on a
Jordan Rice touchdown run.
The Eagles went into the matchup giving up only 12.3 points per game.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which the Warriors took, 42-6.
The defeat comes as a step back for McAuley Catholic, which notched a 28-21 victory over Pierce City in its previous outing.
