The Valley Vikings were the 82-52 winner over the Jefferson Blue Jays when they last played one another back in December of 2016, but their luck changed this time around. Valley took a serious blow against Jefferson on Wednesday, falling 60-17. Valley was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-10.
Jefferson's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Halayna Loyd led the charge by scoring 15 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. Those seven steals set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Louise Duepner, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Valley has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Jefferson, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-4.
Valley will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Paul Lutheran at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Jefferson won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Perryville at 7:00 p.m. on January 11th. Perryville is on a five-game streak of home wins, Jefferson a five-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
