Basketball Recap: Mohave Accelerated Piles Up the Points Against Trivium Prep

Mohave Accelerated entered their tilt with Trivium Prep on Tuesday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They claimed a resounding 58-31 win over the Trivium Prep Crimson Knights. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 117th, while the Crimson Knights are ranked 249th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Katie Farnell continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 27 points and ten steals. She has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 18 times she's played. Haley Leslie was another key player, putting up five points along with seven boards and six steals.

Mohave Accelerated smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Trivium Prep's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Madison Hager, who posted 12 points in addition to seven rebounds and seven steals. That was a full 38.7% of Trivium Prep's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Coby Luekenga, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 boards.

Mohave Accelerated's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-7. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.5 points per game. As for Trivium Prep, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-8.

Mohave Accelerated and Trivium Prep's offenses will be put to the test in their next games. Mohave Accelerated will face off against Needles at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, a squad that's only allowed 26.47 points per game. Similarly, Trivium Prep and North Phoenix Preparatory Academy (who has only given up 24.07 points per game) will meet at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
