Baseball Game Preview: Portola Tigers vs. Biggs Wolverines

The Portola Tigers will square off against the Biggs Wolverines at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.

Portola is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 15 runs on Friday, they were much more limited against Loyalton on Monday. They came up short against the Grizzlies, falling 9-2. The Tigers have struggled against the Grizzlies recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Portola saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joe Leal, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Leal is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Meanwhile, Biggs beat Hamilton 9-5 on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wolverines.

The team relied heavily on David Ibarra, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Brayden Martin, who earned three RBI.

Biggs was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They are 9-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Biggs' victory bumped their record up to 13-10. As for Portola, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-13.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Portola has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Biggs struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
