Even though The Clay Center Tigers have not done well against the Marysville Bulldogs recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Clay Center simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Marysville 55-7 on the road. The result was nothing new for Clay Center, who have now won four matchups by 48 points or more so far this season.
Clay Center was led to victory by Cole Pladson and Brody Hayes. Pladson threw for 100 yards and two touchdowns on only seven passes, while Hayes gained 103 total yards and two touchdowns. Hayes was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 60 yards.
Clay Center's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 7-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-7 Hiawatha and 2-6 Concordia (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 36.6% over those games). As for Marysville, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.
Clay Center will look to defend their home field on Friday against Clearwater at 7:00 p.m. Clearwater will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 129th, while Clay Center is ranked 25th). As for Marysville, they will head out on the road to face off against Hesston at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
