Baseball Recap: Elgin Now 11-1 over Last 12 Games

Elgin made up a huge gap compared to their last game against El Reno, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Owls blew past the Indians 9-1 on Friday. The Owls might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 17 games by six runs or more this season.

Ritson Meyer made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meyer was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last 14 matches.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mason Thornton, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Lucas Young also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Elgin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as El Reno only posted an OBP of .375.

Elgin has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for El Reno, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-5-2.

Looking ahead, Elgin will challenge Harrah at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. As for El Reno, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Noble at 5:30 p.m.
