Ludlow is 9-1 against Holyoke since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Lions will host the Purple Knights at 5:00 p.m. Ludlow has given up an average of 10.6 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Ludlow had taken Chicopee Comp down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Wednesday. The Lions took a 12-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Colts.
Liv Slatton put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in walks (zero). She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs.
In other batting news, Maddie Gonsalves and Eris Learned did some serious damage despite the final result: Gonsalves got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base, while Learned got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four RBI. Ava Peczka was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Holyoke was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 10-1 to Palmer.
Holyoke saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Samantha Rodriguez, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double. That double was Rodriguez's first of the season.
Holyoke's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Ludlow, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 6-8.
Holyoke's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Ludlow has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Holyoke, though, as they've been averaging 10.5 hits. Given Ludlow's sizable advantage in that area, the Purple Knights will need to find a way to close that gap.
Ludlow took their victory against Holyoke in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 18-5 score. Will the Lions repeat their success, or do the Purple Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
