IA Southern - Sunrise recap Oct. 30, 2012
Moapa Valley extended the longest winning streak in IA Southern - Sunrise this week by beating Pahrump Valley, 65-0. The win marks 10th in a row for the the Pirates.
Moapa Valley took down the Trojans 65-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Josh Repp threw for 74 yards and two touchdowns in the win.
Conner Mortensen was the best wideout in the league this week as Brent Lewis' team bested Pahrump Valley. Mortensen tallied one reception for 32 yards. Sean McConnell helped Moapa Valley's passing attack out by catching one ball for 17 yards.
Xavier Steel was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 20 carries, he ran for 247 yards as Boulder City beat the Trojans. DJ Koopman also contributed to the rushing game with 120 yards on the ground.
Thanks to the talents of Repp and Mortensen Moapa Valley has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Repp leads the league in passing with 783 yards, while Mortensen has rushed for 1576 yards this season. Sunrise Mountain's A'keem Ross leads the league in receiving yards with 421 on 37 catches.
The Eagles made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,161 from 5,232. The improvement came about via a 57-33 victory over Faith Lutheran last week.
