The Cienega Bobcats were the 52-50 winner over the Tucson High Magnet School Badgers when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Cienega fell 51-41 to Tucson High Magnet School on Thursday. Cienega has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Several Bobcats players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mia Kelley, who scored 12 points along with four steals. Elizabeth Puente was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Even though they lost, Cienega smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tucson High Magnet School only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
Tucson High Magnet School's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Destiney Brown, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Brown hasn't dropped below two steals for ten straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamila Vasavilbaso, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Cienega has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season. As for Tucson High Magnet School, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cienega will take on Desert View at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Desert View has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 14. As for Tucson High Magnet School, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Nogales at 6:00 p.m. on January 15th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Nogales is ranked 108th, while Tucson High Magnet School is ranked 93rd).
