Niwot (Colo.) captured the lead in the fourth quarter and held on for a 22-19 victory over
Loveland (Colo.) on Saturday. The Cougars captured the lead for good when
Bryan Meek thew a touchdown to
Elijah Noterman.
After taking the lead on a rushing touchdown, the Indians went into halftime with a 13-9 lead. The Cougars took the lead for good with a Meek touchdown pass to Noterman in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring zero points in the third, Niwot still trailed by 10 points going into the fourth quarter. But 13 points in the fourth helped NHS pull out the victory.
The final score was a stunner, as the Cougars was ranked No. 159 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Colorado, far below Loveland's spot at No. 73.
Meek stood out for Niwot in the win. The junior running back threw one touchdown, ran for one touchdown and caught one touchdown. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.
NHS got revenge for last year's 28-13 loss to LHS with the victory.
The defeat comes as a step back for Loveland, which notched a 37-21 victory over Greeley Central in its previous outing.
Loveland (2-3) will play a 4A Northern game against Greeley West next week, while Niwot (2-3) will take on Mountain View also in a 4A Northern game.
