Basketball Game Preview: Ocean View Seahawks vs. Garden Grove Argonauts

The Ocean View Seahawks will head out to challenge the Garden Grove Argonauts at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Ocean View is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.5 points per game this season.

Last Friday, Ocean View was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 62-56 to Kennedy. While losing is never fun, the Seahawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 971st, while the Fighting Irish are ranked 243rd).

Ocean View's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Malachi Jefferson, who went 9 for 15 on his way to 21 points and six rebounds, and Zeke Case, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 boards. That's the most points Jefferson has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Covarrubias, who posted eight points and ten rebounds.

Even though they lost, Ocean View smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Garden Grove got the win against Segerstrom on Wednesday by a conclusive 52-32.

Garden Grove's win bumped their record up to 14-12. As for Ocean View, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-20 record this season.

Ocean View came up short against Garden Grove in their previous meeting on January 10th, falling 56-44. Can Ocean View avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
