Del Mar had lost six games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 3-9 on Friday that streak is in the rearview. They came out on top against the Silver Creek Raiders by a score of 15-11. This was payback for the Dons, who suffered a 16-2 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Natalie Dixon made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up ten earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Niarah Aimonetti was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Julienn (Jess) Ruiz-Correa, who went 2-for-6 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Del Mar kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.
As for Silver Creek, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. As for they, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-11.
On Silver Creek's side, Emma Tang and Malerie Ramirez did some serious damage despite the final result: Tang went a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs, while Ramirez went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. Those stolen bases marked the first that Ramirez has snagged this season. Jessenia Garcia was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two RBI.
Del Mar and Silver Creek will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next contests. The next time the Dons see the field they'll take on Lincoln at 4:00 p.m. on the 30th. As for Silver Creek, their break will end when they face Hill at 4:00 p.m. on the 28th.
