The Vardaman Rams waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They strolled past Houlka with points to spare, taking the game 34-15. That's another feather in the cap for Vardaman, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Leading Vardaman to victory were Kamri Jones and Addie Lucius. Jones scored nine points along with 11 rebounds and four blocks, while Lucius scored nine points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Lucius is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Tatina Cousins was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with two steals.
Despite the loss, Houlka still got an impressive performance from Destiny Foster, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Houlka struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Vardaman posted 11 assists.
Vardaman's win ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-12. As for Houlka, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-17.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Vardaman will take on Okolona at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Okolona will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. Houlka will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Ashland at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
