The Landrum Cardinals will head out on the road to square off against the Greer Middle College Blazers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Landrum's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 16 contests.
Last Friday, Landrum humbled the Warriors with a 91-48 victory. Given Landrum's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while the Warriors are ranked 282nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Benett Edwards was his usual excellent self, scoring 36 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Franklin Davis was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight assists and five steals.
Meanwhile, Greer Middle College came tearing into Friday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 53-44 victory over Blacksburg.
Landrum is on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 games, which provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season. As for Greer Middle College, they pushed their record up to 19-5 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
Landrum skirted past the Blazers 58-55 in their previous matchup back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Landrum since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
