Wakefield has gone 8-2 against Broughton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Wolverines will challenge the Capitals at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Wakefield has six straight victories, Broughton has nine straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Wakefield barely beat Leesville Road the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Wolverines blew past the Pride 18-2 on Friday. Considering the Wolverines have won five games by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Kensley Harrison made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Harrison was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Haley Ramey looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Wakefield got a massive performance out of Emily Fernandez, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Brenna Colleran was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Wakefield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .577. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2025.
Enloe hit Broughton with a four-run seventh inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Capitals lost 12-5 to the Eagles.
Cece Bissette made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Avery Troxell, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Broughton's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Wakefield, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Broughton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Wakefield has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Broughton, though, as they've been averaging 11.3 hits. Given Wakefield's sizable advantage in that area, the Capitals will need to find a way to close that gap.
Wakefield got the 'W' when the teams last played back in March of 2023 against Broughton by a conclusive 13-0 score. Do the Wolverines have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Capitals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
