The Beaverhead County Beavers will venture away from home to face off against the Stevensville Yellowjackets at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Beaverhead County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Friday just wasn't the day for Beaverhead County's offense. They came up short against Frenchtown on Friday, falling 10-0. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Beavers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, Stevensville had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They never let the Blue Devils get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Yellowjackets, who have now won five contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
Maddix Yeager made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Molly Davids was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Jaidan Oyler was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one double.
Stevensville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .520. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive matches.
Stevensville's record now sits at 7-2. As for Beaverhead County, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-2.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Beaverhead County has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. However, it's not like Stevensville struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.7 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Beaverhead County skirted past Stevensville 7-6 in their previous matchup back in April. Will the Beavers repeat their success, or do the Yellowjackets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
