The Ligonier Valley Rams managed to keep up with the North Star Cougars until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Ligonier Valley was dealt a 66-36 defeat at the hands of North Star. While losing is never fun, Ligonier Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 615th, while North Star is ranked 226th).
Ethan Smith continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for North Star, scoring 22 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Smith hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Andy Retassie, who scored 14 points along with six assists and two steals.
Ligonier Valley bumped their record down to 2-10 with that loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for North Star, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-2.
Ligonier Valley will be playing at home against Derry at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for North Star, North Star and Berlin Brothersvalley will face off at 7:15 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
