Basketball Recap: Box Elder's Losing Streak Snapped at Nine Games

Box Elder came into Friday's game having lost nine straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They secured a 51-47 W over the Bear River Bears on Friday. The Bees' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Box Elder to victory, but perhaps none more so than Emma Nelson, who posted seven points in addition to seven rebounds and seven steals. With that strong performance, Nelson is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Jocelyn Vranes, who went 6 of 12 en route to 17 points and three steals.

Bear River lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Aubree Fry, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine steals. Those nine steals gave Fry a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Saydee Pebley, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 boards.

Box Elder's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-8. As for Bear River, they dropped their record down to 1-10 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Box Elder will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Bountiful at 12:30 p.m. on December 31st. Bountiful is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.6 points per game this season. Bear River also won't see the court for a while: their next match is against Ogden at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
